Is CBD Marijuana?

Is CBD Marijuana?

CBD (Cannabidial)  is becoming more and more interesting to people who are tired of the side effects and lack of relief they are getting from traditional pharmaceuticals. It’s good to see the population is becoming more health conscious and are shifting their collective mindset from remedies made in a lab to products extracted from mother nature that has many benefits without the same risks. But the number one main concern people have that is holding them back from trying CBD is will it get them intoxicated or high. Is CBD the same thing as Marijuana?

To be very clear, CBD is not Marijuana. Marijuana is a species of plant that is derived from the Cannabis Plant (Genus). The Cannabis plant comes from the family of Cannabaceae.

Marijana is grown for medical and recreational purposes. Marijauna plants can be very high in the organic compound THC. THC is the compound that is famous for the psychoactive effect or the “high” that one gets after it enters the bloodstream and reaches the brain. THC is known for this mind altering effect but it also has many proven health benefits. Many people use THC for recreational purposes, for certain illnesses and for serious medical issues.

CBD, on the other hand, does not get you high.   CBD is a chemical compound that can be found and extracted from  both the Hemp Plant and the Marijuana Plant.  It is NOT psychoactive and will NOT make you high.    What science and research are showing however, is CBD has numerous health benefits.   The Hemp Plant and Marijuana Plant (Cannabis Sativa)  are both species of the Cannabis Plant.   The Hemp Plant has very low levels of THC and high levels of CBD and the Marijuana Plant has usually much higher levels of THC than CBD.

Small differences, big effects

CBD and THC have different effects on the human body.  THC gets you high and CBD does not. However, they both do share a few similarities.    CBD and THC have the exact same chemical makeup: The both have 53 atoms – 21 carbon atoms, 30 hydrogen atoms, and 2 oxygen atoms. They are nearly identical twins, except for their atomic arrangement.

This very slight but significant variance causes THC to create a psychoactive effect, while CBD does not. It’s kind of like humans & Chimpanzee’s. We share 99% of our DNA with Chimps. But that 1% difference makes a huge difference.

CBD & THC both have some proven health benefits. Just look online at the scientific studies and research. You will be amazed. THC or Marijuana is known to get you high but what most people don’t know is that it has many proven health benefits. CBD is showing the potential to completely change what the average person’s medicine cabinet looks like. Instead of having 5-10 toxic pharmaceuticals your Dr. may only keep you on only a few and the rest will be covered by CBD and Hemp Oil.

CBD & THC are both referred to as Phytocannabinoids. The Cannabis plant has over 100 different Cannabinoids. They are called Phytocannabinoids because they come from plants.

The human body also produces its own Cannabinoids. They are referred to as Endocannabinoids (Endo-Latin for within). The human body currently produces two cannabinoids.

You can purchase CBD without any detectable THC. You can also purchase CBD that has large amounts of THC or you can purchase CBD with trace amounts of THC. It’s completely up to you and your Doctor. If you’re Dr. wants you take THC for a medical issue or you just want the euphoric effects it offers you can purchase it a dispensary in a state where it THC is legally sold. Keep in mind Marijuana is still considered a schedule I drug of the controlled substance act and federally illegal. With all the support and research coming out it shouldn’t be too long before it gets reclassified to a lesser degree.

If you only want the  CBD with no detectable CBD purchase products that are isolates or products labeled as broad spectrum. The CBD industry is not regulated so make sure you check the Certificate of Analysis and the Third Party lab test to make sure there is no detectable THC.

Science does show that a little THC with CBD may enhance the overall effects. If you want to have small amounts of THC (less than .03%) with your CBD you should opt for Full Spectrum Hemp Oil products. But always verify the lab results and the lab testing them. Many people are getting ripped off by unscrupulous companies trying to make a quick buck in this exploding industry.

Remember CBD and THC are both organic compounds that are called Phytocannabinoids. They are two of the over 100 Cannabinoids that have been identified. There are many others that will be mainstream in the future such as CBG. They are more called Phyocannabinoids since they come from a plant, the Cannabis plant. Science has shown both CBD and THC ( Tetrahydrocannabinol) have numerous medicinal properties but THC is the one that gets users feeling Euphoric.

Many Benefits

Now that we understand that CBD will not get you high we must understand that CBD, among other things is  a proven anti-inflammatory & antioxidant. Many illnesses and diseases are bi-products of inflammatory issues. Antioxidants combat free radicals in your body to prevent oxidative stress.

Oxidative stress has been linked to several conditions you’ve heard of, such as heart disease, arthritis, stroke, respiratory disease, immune deficiency, emphysema, Parkinson’s disease and other inflammatory or ischemic conditions.

This is a big deal. Anti-inflammatory and Antioxidant properties from the same compound with little or no side effects is incredible. CBD has numerous other proven benefits that can significantly improve your health. To name a few, research shows CBD may help with sleep, mood, PTSD,  pain relief, stress, promote a healthy heart and brain while working against certain cancers and even addiction. Show me another compound that can do all that!

CBD interacts with the Endocannabinoid System

CBD, however,  is not a miracle solution. It does not cure and prevent everything. You will still die someday (spoiler alert). Proper diet, exercise and mindset still trump all. But what we now, science has shown, that CBD, this gift from mother nature, and is one of the healthiest substances you can put into your body because it has an effect on your Endocannabinoid System.

The Endocannabinoid System, this recently discovered system is the Rock Star of all bodily systems. Sorry circulatory, nervous and immune system. We love you and need you all, but without the ECS ( Endocannabinoid System)  you would not be able to function.

Now we are excited to start a CBD regimen because we know it won’t get us high and we know it can help our body and mind through its interaction with the Endocannabinoid system.

Always start slow and low with CBD. If you have never taken CBD or Hemp Oil  starting slow and gradually increasing as needed will allow you to achieve the best results. You will eventually hit the sweet spot or therapeutic serving size that works for you. The lower the serving size, the more money you will save. If you get the desired results from a 10mg a day of CBD that’s a big financial difference than if you needed a 100mg a day. Some conditions may need higher serving sizes but starting low and increasing over time will give you the best chance to save money and get the most benefit from what you’re taking. Taking too much CBD or Hemp Oil can be counter productive.

To recap:

CBD is NOT Marijuana. CBD will not get you High or Intoxicated. CBD & THC have a few similarities. Both are referred to as Phyotcannabinoids (Phyto -latin for plant). There are over a 100 identified Cannabinoids in the Cannabis Plant. They both have 53 atoms. The atoms are arranged different making for different effects on the body. THC is the Phytocannabinoid that is responsible for the high. Cannabinoids are compounds that interact with the ECS in Humans and animals. The ECS is an incredible system in the human body that promotes Homeostasis, which is a sense of overall well being.  The ECS is the big boss when it comes to systems in the body. It governs and modulates all the other bodily systems.

CBD is proven to have numerous health benefits such as being a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory  without the nasty side effects of pharmaceuticals. Make sure you purchase quality CBD and aren’t scammed by incorrect product labeling. Do this by looking at the COA – Certificate of Analysis and the Third Party lab results. If there is no information about this on the packaging or product most likely it will not have one.

When taking CBD start slow. Build up as needed. This will help you get the optimum effect and save you money in the long run. Lets say your optimal service size for your pain is 30 mg a day and you are taking 100 mg. This will cost you a lot more money and possibly not relieve your pain. Finding the sweet spot when it comes to serving size is very important.

Talk to your doctor about what type of CBD is best for you and how much.
